Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Ford Grimes.
Janice, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I didn’t get pets until late in life. 13 years ago, I had a cat die of mercury poisoning and he got it from licking me! I didn’t even know I had it and he died from it! It changed who I was! A few years later I started working on Spa Paws. Today it is a world class pet hotel and wellness center! My passion is saving them from food allergies! Their immune system is 80% in their gut! Food allergies are killing them! Spa Paws Hotel has 10 dog related businesses in it! We are staffed 24/7! There are 3 staffed daycares and a Wellness Vet Clinic, plus many more! Everything first class. I am partnered with Saving Hope Foundation who saves dogs on a very large scale.
Has it been a smooth road?
This has not been easy! My philosophy had never been done! The standard of care I provide my guests has been new. Even in the salon- when you groom with us you get free daycare, we don’t put them in cages and I don’t hire groomers who use a loop. We have no anxiety grooming! When you board you get free daycare! We have three shifts of people so they are never alone! There is a wellness market and we pick up and deliver. I have a great photography studio. My pet photographer is one of the best. We have an event room for birthday parties, baby showers, wedding and memorials! It was very hard to get employees to care for them the way I expect!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I am in Fort Worth! I think that has made it harder than it could have been! The people here are a harder sell, I think! But it is a great business!
